Why I shouldn’t write in English

Once, a member in a bulletin board that I’m in said that my blog is random like potatoes. He wasn’t trying to comment about the content that I write. In fact, he didn’t understand anything that I wrote here. The random thing that he said refers to the language that I use to write my blog posts.

As you can see, sometimes I write in English, just like this article. But sometimes I write in Bahasa Indonesia. Or most of the time, I write in Bahasa Indonesia but have some English words in it. That style of language that I use clearly didn’t make any sense to the bulletin board member that I mentioned previously.

I always wanted to write my blog in proper English in order to reach wider audience. But I don’t feel confident enough to run a 100% English based site as I prone to make mistakes because I’m not a good English speaker or writer. Besides, most of human visitors here are Indonesians. I know that some Eastern European countries visit this site more than Indonesian, but all of them are either spam bots or unknown persons that think that this site is Macedonian (FYI .mk is a Macedonian domain).

If I write in English, my current Indonesian visitors might become lazy to visit and read this blog. Of course I don’t want to lose my existing visitors. Even if I write in English, that doesn’t guarantee more visits to me. So I think that it is better for me to write mostly in Bahasa Indonesia for a while, until I’m sure that there is more traffic from international readers.
